This Mom Refused To Give Up Her Disabled Son And Determined To Nurture Him, Now He's A Harvard Law Student


A single mom named Zuo Hongyan gave birth to her only son back in 1988 in China. However, this mom was heartbroken when her baby named Ding Ding was born with cerebral palsy. Doctors told suggested the mother to give up the baby instead for he'd either grew up as disabled or with low intelligence. Ding's father was ready to agree to but Zuo Hongyan refused.

Even when her husband divorced her, she was determined to keep the child and nurture him. The mother took up several jobs so she can earn a living and afford treatment for her son.


Zou often took Ding to rehabilitation sessions. She
even learned massage therapy so she could take care of his stiff muscles, a symptom of his disorder.


The dedicated mom pushed him to master using chopsticks, which was difficult for him, because she did not want him to have to explain his problems every time he went out to eat as an adult.


She taught him to hold and write with a pen, and urged him to study hard.

Zou's sacrifice was all worth it! Ding later graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Peking University’s Environmental Science and Engineering School in 2011.

Ding spend two years working, and last year was admitted to Harvard Law School in Massachusetts.


According to Ding: 'I never dared to dream of applying to Harvard,' he said. 'It was my mother who never stopped encouraging me to give it a try. Whenever I had any doubts, she would guide me forward.'

Now netizens are all praises for the Zou,  loving mother who never gave up on her child.
